Replaces one missing tooth with a natural-looking implant and crown, without trimming the neighbouring teeth.
Replaces several missing teeth with implant-supported bridges or dentures.
A full set of fixed teeth for patients with extensive tooth loss, supported by a planned number of implants.
In suitable cases, teeth can be fitted on the implants within about 3 days, so you do not wait months for fixed teeth. Read more about permanent teeth in 3 days.
A dental implant has three parts: a small post placed in the jawbone that acts as the tooth root (titanium is the most commonly used material), a connector called an abutment, and the visible tooth, which can be a crown, a bridge or a denture. The crown or bridge is made specifically for your mouth from impressions or digital scans, so that its shape, size and colour match your natural teeth. Ask your doctor which implant system and materials will be used in your case.
In a one-piece (single-piece) implant, the post and the connector (abutment) are made as a single unit. In a two-piece implant, the post is placed first and the abutment is attached separately.
| One-piece implant | Two-piece implant | |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Post and abutment in one unit | Separate post and abutment |
| Flexibility | The angle cannot be changed after placement, so planning must be precise | The abutment angle and crown can be adjusted more easily |
| Healing | The upper part stays above the gum, so it must be protected from chewing forces | The post can be covered by gum while it heals |
| Often used for | Cases where teeth are fixed quickly, or where space is narrow | Most routine cases and when more prosthetic flexibility is needed |
Neither is better for everyone. The choice depends on your bone, the position of the tooth and your bite, and your doctor will recommend one after examination and scans.
Bone loss does not always rule out implants. Depending on your scans, your doctor may recommend a conventional implant with grafting, or a technique such as cortico-basal (basal) implants, which can avoid grafting in suitable cases. The options are explained at your consultation.
The cost depends on how many implants you need and the complexity of your case. Book a consultation and we will give you an estimate before you begin.
It is an implant where the post and the abutment are one unit. It is often used when teeth are fixed quickly or the space is narrow, but it needs precise planning because the angle cannot be adjusted later.
The implant post is usually made of titanium, which bonds well with bone. The crown, bridge or denture on top is custom-made to match your teeth.
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain during it. Some soreness and swelling afterwards is normal and is managed with medicines your doctor prescribes.
Implants can last many years, often decades, but this depends on oral hygiene, gum health, smoking, bite and regular check-ups.
Often yes. The right approach depends on your scans, and your doctor will explain whether grafting or a basal implant technique is suitable.
In suitable cases, fixed teeth can be fitted within about 3 days. Conventional implant treatment may take a few months because of healing time.
